Career

The football played by Dani Alves at Palmeiras de Salitre and later at Bahia (the club which he won the Brazilian championship with) did not go unnoticed by Sevilla F.C. They jumped ahead of other interested clubs (FC Barcelona and RCD Espanyol) by paying $ 500.000 for the player on loan with an option to buy. The deal would finally be executed a year later for a similar amount. This had been agreed on by contract and turned out to be an insignificant quantity considering the contribution he would later make in the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuan Stadium.

trayectoria2While a Sevilla player, he had won the World Cup Under-20 for Brazil and was chosen the third best player in the championship.

We all know what happened next. At Sevilla FC, Alves was instrumental in an era in which the team won the UEFA CUP twice in a row (2005/2006 and 2006/2007), The Spanish Super Cup (2007), the European Super Cup (2006) and the King's Cup in Spain (2006/2007). His team was elected as the best club in the world two years in a row by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

In 2006, the player extended his contract until 2012, but it was inevitable that sooner or later he would leave the club.
In 2007, the relationship between club and player became strained because of the many offers received from top European clubs such as F.C. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Chelsea. Chelsea, with Abramovich's economic power invested plenty of time and energy to get the deal done but the President of Sevilla FC, José María del Nido, refused to accept any of the proposals submitted to the club.

Finally, club and player agreed to extend their relationship one more year. The club promised to cooperate in releasing the player for a certain amount of money the following year.

trayectoria3Dani slipped into the Sevilla FC shirt and said he would give his very best for club. And so he did.

In 2008, FC Barcelona signed Alves for 35 million euros becoming the second most expensive signing ever for the Catalan club.

trayectoria4At Camp Nou, Dani Alves won everything there is to win at club level: Spanish League (2008/09, 2009/2010 and 2010/2011), Spanish King's Cup (2008/2009) Champions League (2008/2009 and 2010/2011), Spanish Super Cup (2009, 2010 and 2011), UEFA Super Cup (2009 and 2011) FIFA World Club Cup (2009 and 2011).

Incredibly fast, he soon became the perfect partner for Leo Messi on the right side of the field. Thanks to his powerful physical fitness, Dani is able to dominate the right back position, feeding midfielders and helping his teammates to score goals. He can even surprise rivals by playing in the midfield-line or by shooting on goal as any other striker would do. Being defined by many as a "jack of all trades" he is much more than a classic right-back.
